Dojo Etiquette (Reigi) and the Martial Spirit
Understanding the deep cultural traditions of respect, bowing (Rei), and mental presence in the dojo.
As Master Gichin Funakoshi famously stated, "Karate begins and ends with courtesy." Inside the dojo, bowing is an outward expression of humility, mutual safety, and mutual respect among students and instructors.
Maintaining an orderly uniform (Dogi), punctual attendance, and silence during technical instruction allows students of all ages to develop genuine mental discipline that extends far beyond the training mat.
